How did Career Building with Maya start?

A: Career Building with Maya was developed around one idea – finding a job is hard, and financial pressures are harder! We have designed a career plan that looks to elevate your experiences, skills – and better to have you communicate them, outside of your resume. Looking for employment takes time, and we recognize the defeat felt applying for many jobs, only to get no calls, or emails back.

 

Who is Maya?

A: Maya has a 4-year Bachelor of Business Administration, with a direct concentration in Human Resources and Marketing. With 15 years of professional work experience, Maya has worked in both the private and public sectors - 8 years being in management. Maya has conducted interviews for a range of positions, managed hiring processes, and trained workforces. While managing a retail store, Maya developed an understanding of people. Seeing them beyond what they can provide the organization, but rather how she could invest her time building their confidence, skills and development.  

 

What is included in your Career Plan? Is your Plan flexible?

A: Included in our career plan is a one-on-one meet and greet with Maya. Maya will take notes about your experiences, skills, and professional ambitions. This allows us to curate an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) friendly Professional Resume and Cover Letter, designed around you. Secondly, we provide Interview Preparation - we understand interviews are nerve-wracking! It can be difficult navigating questions, while speaking to your work experiences. Maya will help you prepare for interviews, through mock interviews. This will enhance your response time, when asked a question. Maya uses the STAR method, a technique used to interpret your ability to problem-solve, collaborate and lead. We will also help you confidently discuss your resume without needing to refer to it. Lastly, we provide Job Search Assistance because finding a job is hard - we want to make that process easier for you! We will email you job openings daily, as a commitment to you in your journey to finding a career. If you require accomodation, we are happy to support you! Why purchase a career plan, versus creating a resume and cover letter with AI?

A: At Career Building with Maya, we recognize the ease of using AI – especially when you don’t know where to start! However, companies are now seeing AI adapted resumes and are looking for candidates who can speak to their experience, and skills directly. This helps prepare you for a future interview, and your potential role in the organization when hired. With our career plans, the aim is to not only create a professional resume and cover letter with you – we specifically build your confidence, and ability to communicate in a professional setting.

 

Why are your resumes neutral, with little design?

A: Companies use sophisticated ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) or HCM (Human Capital Management) systems like SAP SuccessFactors to sort likely candidates, and employees. Designs on resumes can enhance visibility, however they face formatting issues when uploaded on these software’s. We keep it simple, while adding a splash of personality! We focus on your skills and experiences, rather than design.

 

Who are your services aimed for?

A: Anyone who needs them! Whether you just got fired, quit your job, recently graduated, immigrated to the country – or are simply looking for your dream job! Our plans are individually designed around you, to help you get your foot through the door. Career Building with Maya is also an inclusive company and will accommodate any individual requiring additional, and or flexible support.

 

Why do you charge a Flat Rate, versus a Monthly Subscription Fee? When do services end?

A: Our services are not subscription based because your success is important to us. We recognize the financial pressures individuals, and families face. Whether you have just immigrated to the country, have lost your job, or are looking for your dream job – it’s a priority for us to help our clients, while they may be facing adverse challenges seeking employment. Because our services are not subscription based – once you have secured a job, you can choose to end your services. As part of our customer service model, we will ask you to complete a survey designed to tell us about your experiences with us. It is not mandatory, but we would love to hear your feedback as we adapt and innovate our services.
